Fine air particulates reach 184 on the air quality index.
The National Weather Service issued air quality warnings for Minnesota and Wisconsin on Monday, reporting an “unhealthy” amount of fine air particles due to smoke from Canadian wildfires.
Six uncontrolled wildfires are currently raging in British Columbia, Canada’s southwestern province, and 60 controlled blazes have been lit in an attempt to stop wildfire spread. Southeastern winds are blowing the fires’ smoke into the northern United States, with Minneapolis and St. Paul recording fine particle levels as high as 184 on the Air Quality Index.
The 2024 wildfire season officially began this week, and regulators are warning Americans affected by the air quality to limit their time outdoors.
